Think you know the person you married? Think again…

Things have been wrong with Mr and Mrs Wright for a long time. When Adam and Amelia win a weekend away to Scotland, it might be just what their marriage needs. Self-confessed workaholic and screenwriter Adam Wright has lived with face blindness his whole life. He can’t recognize friends or family, or even his own wife.

Every anniversary the couple exchange traditional gifts--paper, cotton, pottery, tin--and each year Adam’s wife writes him a letter that she never lets him read. Until now. They both know this weekend will make or break their marriage, but they didn’t randomly win this trip. One of them is lying, and someone doesn’t want them to live happily ever after.

Ten years of marriage. Ten years of secrets. And an anniversary they will never forget.

Rock Paper Scissors is the latest exciting domestic thriller from the queen of the killer twist, New York Times bestselling author Alice Feeney.

Alice Feeney's Rock Paper Scissors is a brilliant, disorienting descent into a marriage poisoned by secrets, earning a rare and enthusiastic 5-star rating. This novel sets a tone of immediate, inescapable dread, transforming a secluded Scottish getaway into a psychological battleground. The genius of this thriller lies in the pervasive atmosphere of mutual suspicion. Adam and Amelia Wright are clearly keeping critical information from each other, making the reader feel like a spy trying to decipher two concurrent, highly-secretive plots. The early confusion—who is plotting what?—is entirely intentional and deeply satisfying. While the journey is thrilling, the climax is where the book truly shines. Feeney expertly layers revelations, leading to a jaw-dropping twist that doesn't just resolve one mystery but fundamentally changes how you view every scene that preceded it. The immediate impulse upon discovery is exactly what every great thriller aims for: the burning desire to re-read the entire book to piece together the newly revealed puzzle. It is exceedingly difficult for a thriller to achieve a 5-star rating, but Rock Paper Scissors makes it look easy. This is more than a recommendation; it's a command: if you love suspense that rewards re-reading, pick up Rock Paper Scissors—ignore the skeptics, this book is fantastic.

Absolutely original and compelling plot and superbly drawn characters. Multiple twists intricately woven throughout the story, with the threads gently pulled slowly until the truth of what was happening all along was revealed. Excellent and wonderfully satisfying novel! I will definitely read more by this author!

This book was so slow in the beginning and middle, it took me forever to get through. So much detail and none of it made sense until the last few chapters.

The chapel house was a great backdrop for this twisty tale.

I enjoyed the fact the writer was able to set the scene. After having finished the book, I actually had a vivid nightmare because of how much my imagination was being worked up during the reading. I was able to figure out a few things here and there. So that is the only reason why I give this book a 3.5 out of 5. Had I not been so observant on those small but important details, I would’ve probably been way more shocked. Sadly I was only shocked once, and it wasn’t even because of the plot twists. While reading this book I had Ludovico Einaudi’s “Seven Days Walking” project playing in the background. It really heightened my experience with “Rock Paper Scissors”. There were some great moments that I have saved quotes of. Like the chess metaphor, or the butterflies and secrets metaphor to name a few. Page 156 made me chuckle.
