This book pulled at every emotion possible and told a tragically beautiful story of 2 sisters living in France during WWII. The writing was very well done, the stories told were reflective of the history, and ultimately just a very well done read.

I must say that I feel that the first 100 page for so are a real slog, but after that the story becomes much more interesting. In the end, I am glad I read it.

I have read other books about WW 2 but this book takes you to different stages of how terrible terrifying it was.

I had such high hopes for The Nightingale. Based on all the hype, I was convinced this would be one of my new favorite books, but it ended up being one of the most frustrating reads I've experienced in a long time. I was honestly expecting to be hit with a wave of emotion, to feel the story deeply, but instead, I found myself bored and disconnected. The pacing felt incredibly slow, making it a struggle to get through even a single chapter. I'm not a fan of historical fiction, but I was assured by many that this book was different, that the emotional weight of the story transcended the genre. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me. The writing style itself didn't resonate with me either. Instead of pulling me in, it pushed me away, making the whole experience feel like a chore. Every page felt like a monumental effort, and I finally had to give up at 44%. It's truly rare for me to abandon a book, but I simply couldn't find the energy to continue. Even the thought of reading chapter summaries to find out what happens was too much. It's clear that many people love this book, and I can see why the story of these women would be powerful for some. But for me, it was a truly miserable reading experience, a complete and utter disappointment.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever experienced. You won’t just read this story, you will experience everything about it. Now, as I dry my eyes, I feel so small in the grand scheme of things. My own troubles and worries are minuscule compared to the beautiful characters in this story. I only wish I knew the name of the young lady who recommended it to me so I could give her my profuse thanks. Hopefully I will meet up with her again.

Well done. Painted a vivid picture of the Holocaust.
