Description

Master storyteller Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this #1 New York Times bestselling and spellbinding novel about a young man who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for that world or ours.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world.

Love the beginning I feel like they could’ve shortened the middle love the ending so all in all if they just want to shorten up the middle instead of making it so long and dragging, would’ve been even better could’ve been able to give it bigger than five stars but here we are at five stars great book great Red

The first half was very well written and really gets the reader engaged…..King is a master at it. The second half just fell short, I almost didn’t finish reading. The persistent rambling really became monotonous. It’s worth reading but be prepared for disappointment.

Some parts of the book were quite entertaining. And Mr. King can always create pages that put you in the scene. And, who am I to find faults in a composition of such a great writer. But, I can’t resist, because this book in parts seemed like it was written by someone other than a person with Mr Kings talent. It could be simplistic and inconsistent in the books themes or logic. I realize it was fantasy but in side the fantasy, some consistency needs to be maintained . Just not my favorite.

Read a third of the book. After Mr. Bowditch,I am struggling…It’s hard to keep my attention while reading a book, so that is where the 4 stars come in. I will wait to the end to give it a 5th.

It was easy to get lost in the story and the context had to go back a few times to recap, but it sure was a fun Page turner
